Abstract

Introduction: Currently, several problems related to sexuality in the adolescent population are evident, which interrupt their life projects and personal and collective development. Despite the collaborative efforts made by educational institutions and health personnel to promote responsible sexuality in adolescents, there are still gaps around this particular issue.

Objective: Identify the attitudes towards sexuality that the students of an educational institution in the rural area of the Piura region have.

Method. Descriptive cross-sectional research was carried out. It was developed from December, 2022 to March, 2023. The sample consists of 150 students selected by simple random sampling. They were applied a questionnaire to assess their attitudes towards sexuality.

Results: It was evident that the majority of adolescents distributed their results at levels conducive or not towards sexuality. It was reported that the majority of them have not had sexual experiences yet due to having a conservative attitude. In the same way, it was found that the knowledge learned about sexuality is acquired at home, and the need to develop action plans to promote responsible development of sexuality was established.

Conclusion: Attitudes towards sexuality in the sample showed the presence of conservative behaviors regarding human sexuality. Attitudes towards sexuality have a direct relationship with active sexual life; there were no differences in sex or age group according to the answers given by the adolescents.
