Introduction: Burnout syndrome has an impressive list of negative consequences for physicians. Objective: Determine the validation and reliability of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) in Peruvian physicians. Methods: Instrumental study of the MBI-HSS based on a secondary analysis from the National Survey of User Satisfaction in Health 2016, in a sample of 2216 physicians. Reliability was assessed with Cronbach's alpha coefficient and construct validation through Pearson's Rho correlation coefficient. Results: Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the total scale was 0.908 (95% CI:.902-.913). Moderate but significant positive correlations were observed between the scale results and little interest or pleasure in doing things (Rho=.399; p=.000); as well as with the perception of being discouraged, sad, depressed or hopeless (Rho=.322; p=.000) in the last weeks. Conclusion: The factorial structure of the MBI-HSS follows the original Maslach model with satisfactory psychometric properties, making it a valid and reliable instrument for Peruvian physicians screening.
