Mental health status of patients at Medical Office #10 of the “Pedro Borras Astorga” University Polyclynic

Abstract

Introduction: Mental health is a state of well-being that allows a person to develop their abilities. Objective: to determine the mental health status of the population at Family Medical Office #10 of the “Pedro Borrás Astorga” University Polyclinic. Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, and retrospective study was conducted in May 2025. The study population consisted of 1,072 patients. Sampling techniques were applied to 922 patients from the total population. Results: The male sex predominated with 50.87%, and arterial hypertension (31.34%) stood out as the most common non-communicable disease. The mental disorders with the highest prevalence were depression (0.86%) and neurotic disorders (0.75%); the female sex predominated, and the most affected age group was 60 to 69 years. Risky alcohol consumption was predominant at 2.49%, and psychotropic drug use was observed at 1.19%. Conclusions: The population belonging to Medical Clinic #10 of the Pedro Borrás Polyclinic was predominantly male, with the age group of 50 to 59 years being the most represented. Arterial hypertension was the most common condition, and among mental illnesses, depression was prevalent in females, with the most affected age group being 60 to 69 years. The population shows a level of alcohol-related impact and also self-medicates with psychotropic drugs such as Amitriptyline, Chlordiazepoxide, Diazepam, and Alprazolam.
