Bibliometric analysis of the scientific output of the Revista del Hospital Psiquiátrico de La Habana

Introduction: bibliometrics is a key tool for assessing the evolution, visibility, and impact of research in mental health. The Revista del Hospital Psiquiátrico de La Habana (RHPH), with more than five decades of trajectory, is an essential source for analyzing trends in Cuban psychiatry and its integration into the international context.
Objective: to characterize the indexed scientific output of RHPH using bibliometric indicators of productivity, collaboration, and impact.
Methods: a bibliometric study was conducted on 1,094 documents published between 1975 and 2025 and indexed in Scopus. Bibliometrix (R) was used for descriptive analyses, Publish or Perish for citation and impact metrics, and VOSviewer for keyword co-occurrence mapping with a threshold of five occurrences.
Results: the journal showed an annual growth rate of 0.5%, with 395 accumulated citations, an h-index of 5, and a g-index of 7, indicating moderate impact. A total of 1,859 authors contributed, with an average of 2.73 authors per document and low international collaboration (5.67%). The most productive authors were González Menéndez R and Becerra JDC. The thematic analysis identified four main clusters: mental health and psychological aspects, alcoholism and socio-cultural factors, pharmacotherapy, and clinical and biological research, highlighting the prevalence of clinical studies related to the central nervous system.
Conclusions: RHPH maintains stable scientific output but with limited international visibility. Strengthening transnational collaboration, diversifying research lines, and incorporating emerging areas are recommended to increase its impact and competitiveness in the global field of psychiatry.
