The Triad of Personality and Parenting Style in Partner Choise

Introduction: Psychosocial research seeks to clarify links between unhealthy personality traits, intergenerational parenting styles, and subsequent partner choice. This study examines their interrelationship and consequences.
Objective: Determine the relationship between the dark triad of personality, parenting styles and partner choice.
Method: Qualitative study through systematic search in databases with key terms. 50 out of 157 articles in Spanish and English (2018-2022) were selected according to inclusion/exclusion criteria. A search was carried out in databases with keywords and Boolean operators, using the PRISMA method.
Results: The narcissistic, manipulative, antisocial traits of the dark triad impact parenting styles, and cause negative childhood attachments that later hinder the formation of healthy couple bonds. The resulting dynamics fluctuate between the unconscious idealization of parental archetypes or the desperate escape from them, increasing the likelihood of perpetuating transgenerational violence.
Conclusion: Intergenerational cycles of relational suffering could only be reversed through deep awareness and hard personal psychotherapeutic work to forge new healthy bonds, breaking harmful molds of the past that still condition the present of many families.
