Introduction: Oligodendrogliomas arise in the subcortical white matter with extension to the cortex of the brain hemispheres. Its frequency in the pediatric population is about 1-2% of all CNS neoplasms.
Objective: Determine the main pre and postsurgical cognitive disorders in a case of left temporal oligodendroglioma.
Case study: The pre and post-surgical neuropsychological assessment of an 11-year-old male patient with left temporal oligodendroglioma is presented. In the post-surgical assessment two weeks after surgery, improvements in fluid non- verbal reasoning was found; however, amnesic difficulties in the storage and recall processes and executive failures were evident, specifically in working memory.
Conclusions: Neuropsychological assessment in brain surgical procedures allows knowing the state of adaptive, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive processes before and after surgery, representing the bases for the design of economic and ecological specific intervention programs to improve patients and their families’ quality of life.
