¿Afectamos la salud mental del prematuro en las Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales?

Abstract

La hospitalización prolongada de prematuros en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de Neonatología (UCIN)  expone al neonato a dolor, separación y sobreestimulación, generando estrés tóxico en una etapa crítica del desarrollo cerebral. Este estrés altera la regulación genética y hormonal, con consecuencias en la estructura cerebral y la salud emocional futura. Aunque existen avances en cuidados humanizados, falta integrar la salud mental como signo vital y sumar psicólogos perinatales al equipo. La carta subraya que la salud mental comienza en la incubadora y que cada día de estrés acumulado impacta el bienestar futuro del niño.
